Junk removal crew hauling furniture from a home

Why Apex Home Point

Clear it out, then clean it: one crew

We’re the Sacramento junk removal company that also cleans. Landlords, realtors and families clearing a home can book the haul-out and a move-out or deep clean together: one appointment, one invoice.

E-waste rules in California

Electronics with screens and circuit boards contain lead and other materials that California treats as hazardous waste, so they can’t go in your trash cart. They have to go to an e-waste collector or recycler.

City of Sacramento residents can book a free appliance and e-waste pickup appointment, separate from household junk pickup.

Data on old computers

Wipe or remove hard drives from computers before pickup. We can set drives aside for you if you ask.

What counts

What counts as e-waste, and what’s universal waste

ItemCategoryWe take it?
Flat-screen and tube TVs, monitors, laptopsCovered electronic wasteYes
Desktop computers, printers, keyboards, game consolesElectronic wasteYes
Stereos, DVD players, routers, small electronicsElectronic wasteYes
Loose household batteriesUniversal wasteNo: drop-off site
Fluorescent tubes and CFL bulbsUniversal wasteNo: drop-off site

California bans electronics with screens and circuit boards from the trash, and also bans batteries and fluorescent bulbs from the trash as “universal waste.” We take electronics to an e-waste recycler; batteries and bulbs need to go to a household hazardous waste drop-off or a participating store.

Protect your data

Before you give away a computer or phone

  • Back up anything you want to keep.
  • Sign out of accounts and turn off device-tracking features so the next user isn’t locked out.
  • Use the built-in reset to factory settings on laptops, tablets and phones.
  • For old desktops, remove the hard drive and keep it, or ask us to set it aside for you to destroy.

Businesses

E-waste from offices

Offices replacing computers often have monitors, printers, cables and docking stations piling up in a closet. We remove them with the old desks and chairs in one after-hours visit, and can clean the space once it’s empty.

Compare your options

Cheapest way to get rid of it: DIY, dumpster, city pickup or a hauler?

OptionWhat it really costsBest when
Haul it yourselfTruck rental or your own vehicle, fuel, transfer station fees, and your time and backYou have a truck, helpers and only a few items
Rent a dumpsterRental for several days; a permit if it sits on the street; you still do all the loadingLong projects like a remodel where debris builds up over weeks
City or county curbside pickupFree within yearly limits, but you carry everything to the curb and wait for an appointmentYou can wait, can lift it yourself, and the pile fits the size limit
Apex Home Point$75–$150 to $450–$600 by truck space, firm price on-site; we do all the liftingYou want it gone soon, it’s inside the home, or it’s too heavy or too much

Many people mix options: they use the free curbside pickup for one bulky item, and book us for the rest of the garage or the heavy pieces upstairs.

What to expect

How a junk pickup works, start to finish

  1. 1You text a photo or book a time. We reply with a price range based on how much truck space the load looks like it needs.
  2. 2We call or text when the crew is on the way, inside the arrival window you picked.
  3. 3The crew looks at everything in person and gives a firm price before anything is lifted. If it’s less than the range, you pay less; if you decide not to go ahead, there’s no charge.
  4. 4We carry everything out (from bedrooms, upstairs, the garage, the backyard or a storage unit) and protect doorways and floors along the way.
  5. 5We sweep or rake the spot where the items were, then sort the load: donation, recycling, and only what’s left goes to a licensed transfer station.

Most single-item and small-load pickups take under an hour on site. A full garage or a whole-home cleanout usually takes a few hours to a full day, depending on how much sorting you want done on the spot.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Can I throw a TV in the trash in Sacramento?

+

No. TVs and computer monitors are e-waste in California and must be recycled. The city offers free e-waste pickup appointments, or we can take them the same day.

Do you take old tube (CRT) TVs?

+

Yes. They’re heavy and contain leaded glass, so they go to an e-waste recycler, never the landfill.

Do you take microwaves and small appliances?

+

Yes. Microwaves, toasters and other small appliances are picked up with e-waste and recycled.

Is there a minimum for e-waste?

+

A pickup starts at a minimum load, $75–$150. Combining electronics with other junk is usually the best value.

Can you take e-waste from a home office or small business?

+

Yes. Monitors, printers, desktops, cables and old phones are picked up together and taken to an e-waste recycler. Set aside any drives you want to keep or destroy yourself.
